The Charitable Gift Planners of Rhode Island invite you to join us on Thursday, May 21, from 4:00–6:00 PM at the University Club in Providence for our annual meeting, networking, and a compelling educational program featuring national speaker Kent Weimer, CAP®.

We’ll begin the afternoon with informal networking from 4:00–4:30 PM, followed by the CGP-RI's annual meeting from 4:30–5:00 PM, during which we will elect new board officers and members and share updates on the chapter’s work. Member participation is an important part of shaping the future of CGP-RI, and we encourage all members to attend.

At 5:00 PM, we are pleased to welcome Kent Weimer for a timely and highly relevant presentation titled “Troublesome Gifts, Ethics, and the IRS… Oh My!” Sometimes gifts come with complications - both legal and ethical. In this interactive session, Kent will walk participants through real-life gift planning case studies, encouraging open dialogue around planning strategies while exploring dilemmas, opportunities, and possible solutions. The discussion will examine the impact of complex gifts on organizational policies, procedures, and philosophy, with a strong focus on outcomes that benefit the donor, the donor’s family, and the charitable organization. The case studies will also demonstrate how failure to follow Treasury Regulations can lead to donors losing their charitable deductions - an issue with serious implications for all gift planning professionals.

Kent Weimer, CAP®, is the retired Director of Trusts, Estates, and Gift Planning at Parkland Foundation in Dallas, where he worked closely with donors and their advisors to structure estate gifts, create endowments, and contribute assets beyond cash. He brings more than 40 years of experience in fund development across community-based health care, higher education, international health care, and social service organizations. Kent has been actively involved with the National Association of Charitable Gift Planners for over 25 years, including leadership roles with the Chicago and Dallas Councils, and he is a past chair and treasurer of the national CGP board. He has also served on the board of governors of the Dallas Estate Planning Council and continues his work as a gift planning consultant and advisor.

This event is a great opportunity to connect with colleagues, participate in CGP-RI governance, and gain practical insight into ethical and regulatory challenges in gift planning.

We hope you’ll join us for this engaging and informative session. Seating is limited, so please register as soon as possible to secure your spot!
